Abundance

Abundance is generally defined as a positive term meaning that one is blessed with many things wonderful. However, I realize that abundance of everything is not perhaps a good matter at all either. Imagine reading three or four books on your daily. Perhaps, one is just quotes, one is a morning meditation, one is about your work and one is your journal. You only have thirty minutes per day, so you allocate as much time as each needs and slowly you learn that some of your tasks may need a few minutes more or less so you adjust accordingly.

Now imagine you add two more books you really want to master slowly each day in the same thirty minute window. One could be an art book with a simple drawing exercise, another a parenting book with a daily challenge. Now you have to shift and adjust and perhaps realize that by the end of thirty minutes, your progress is not as much as you'd hoped in each subject. This is perhaps one of my daily struggles. The joy of wishing to add more to my list of already packed schedule and the overwhelm my brain feels to add another book or task to the list.

Whether intentional or not, this form of abundance is noise, a distraction. This is where I define abundance more as clutter. Clutter of mind, clutter of space, clutter of life. I find myself falling into this trap time and time again. The trap of doing too much, taking on too much, spreading too thin. Although my intentions are great and every single task that I undertake is genuine and well warranted, they don't receive my attention nowhere near the 100% mark.

It always takes a few days before I realize I'm overwhelmed and my brain screams "too much. Stop!". My space begins looking cluttered and I force myself to step back and jump into action. Clear out. Organize. Declutter. Reassess. My schedule, my priorities, my goals (short and long-term), my TBR and anything and everything in between. I wonder, do you feel the same? Do you also feel the overwhelm vibrating in your system asking you to slow down? What steps do you take to practice self-restraint?

Wishing you a wonderful day,
